ABOUT THE SOCIETY:

The aim of the society is to serve as a platform for avid orators and help build a debating culture on campus. The activities hone speaking skills, instil confidence and helps develop public speaking abilities.

5. Talk Show on the eve of Swacchta Pakhwada sponsored by MHRD on 25th January, 2020
– Prof. Kalyan Kumar Bhar, Prof. Indranath Sinha, Prof. Ujjwal Saha and Prof. Sneha Murmu interacted with a gathering of students.
6. Training Session on Parliamentary Debate, on 26th January, 2020.

Flagship Event:

Our flagship event is the IIEST Model United Nations Conference. In this format, competitors emulate themselves as delegates representing various countries. They assemble in a simulated committee of the United Nations, to discuss on global issues of socio-political importance. Participants engage in intense diplomatic deliberations according to pre-determined Rules of Procedure, and at the end of the event they produce a set of solutions in a Resolution document. This event aims to teach diplomatic courtesy, foreign policy and negotiation skills among others.

Laurels of the Students over the years to be recognized:

1. Manish Banerjee: Won Best Delegate awards in KIIT International MUN 2017,18, BESC Assembly of Nations 2019; Won High Commendation awards in NIT DGP MUN 2018; served as Executive Board in BJEM MUN 2019, NIT DGP MUN 2019 and XSC MUN 2018.
2. Sriman Dutta: Won awards in Xavier’s Debate Competition and Sigma Debate Competition, 2020.
3. Rishabh Chandani: Winner of Economic Times Campus Stars, 2020.
4. Pranay Chhetri: Attended NUJS MUN, 2020.

Planned Activities of the Society for future:
1. Conducting the Model United Nations Conference that could not be organized this academic year.
2. Conducting a Parliamentary Debate Competition.
3. Sending out debating and MUN delegations from our college to various events across the State and Country.

Point of Difference in Performance:

1. Personality Development, Public Speaking and Group Discussion training sessions were conducted, aimed towards helping the members develop skills to make them more employable and to stand out from the crowd during Placement rounds.
2. The members were given training and encouragement to represent the college in events conducted in other colleges, to develop confidence and to compete in more diverse groups.
3. New formats of training were introduced to develop critical thinking and teamwork.
4. As compared to previous years, this year the society witnessed a much higher attendance from the students and greater number of sessions and events.

Guidance for the junior years:

The junior year students are encouraged to be involved in these activities and take leadership as much as possible. Self-development should be a never-ending process.
